IMPORTANT INFORMATION
What is endometriosis?
Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory condition where cells similar to those that line the uterus are found outside the uterus (most commonly in the pelvis).
What is pelvic pain?
Persistent pelvic pain is defined as recurrent pain in the pelvis (the area below the belly button and between the hips) for more than 6 months.
Endometriosis is a recognised factor in persistent pelvic pain. However, not all people with persistent pelvic pain will have endometriosis, and not all people with endometriosis will have persistent pelvic pain. A holistic approach to care with individualised assessment and advice is recommended.
To address these complex conditions, the Federal Government committed to funding for a limited number of primary care clinics nationwide to enhance care for women with Endometriosis and Pelvic pain. This will help to improve diagnostic delay and to promote early access to intervention, care and treatment options for endometriosis and pelvic pain, and the treatment and management of perimenopause and menopause symptoms.
